Laughalot: Winner of the
2005 Tony Award for Best
Musical, Monty Python’s
Spamalot is the outrageous
musical comedy lovingly
ripped off from the classic
Monty Python and the Holy
Grail. Directed by Tony
Award winner Mike Nichols,
Spamalot tells the tale of
King Arthur and his Knights
of the Round Table as they
embark on their quest for
the Holy Grail. Flying cows,
killer rabbits, taunting
Frenchmen and show-stopping musical numbers are
just a few of the reasons
Howard Pyle’s
19th-century paintings
are considered some
of the best American
works of the period.
audiences everywhere are
asking for second helpings of

PENNSYLVANIA
Renaissance man:
Brandywine River Museum in Chadds
Ford presents “Howard
Pyle and the American
Renaissance,” March 17-May
20. The American Renaissance was an important ideological and aesthetic trend in
the late 19th century that
influenced the illustrative
work of Pyle. Believing that
illustration was a springboard for painting and a
means for cultivating public
taste, Pyle created many classically inspired works for publication in popular magazines
and books. This exhibition
features approximately 40
works by Pyle as well as by artists that influenced Pyle’s style
and artists that shared his ideals. brandywinemuseum.org

The off-Broadway surprise
sensation In the Continuum
was hailed as one of the top
four plays of 2005. Living
worlds apart in L.A. and Zimbabwe, two young women
experience a kaleidoscopic
weekend of darkly comic
events when each is diagnosed
with HIV and their lives are
forever changed. Portraying
a rich array of characters,
playwrights/actresses Danai
Gurira and Nikkole Salter offer a funny and mesmerizing
evening of parallel denials
and resonant self-discoveries.
