Francis X. Rocca is a Rome-based corre-
spondent for Religion News Service (RNS) and a
frequent contributor to The Wall Street Journal.
Rocca is co-author, with Rockwell A. Schnabel,
of The Next Superpower? The Rise of Europe
and Its Challenge to the United States (Rowman
& Littlefield, 2005). In this issue of Arrive, Rocca
explores the state of U.S.–EU trade in “Transat-
lantic Tradewinds” (pg. 28). His writing also has
appeared in the Washington Post, Time, Forbes,
Business Week, the Boston Globe and the Atlantic
Monthly, among other publications.
Gwen Shaffer is a Philadelphia-based writer
who typically covers local politics and environmental issues. Her work has appeared in many publications, including The New Republic, Columbia
Journalism Review and Philadelphia magazine.

Wine Trail—which she writes about for this issue
of Arrive—provided the perfect escape from her
doctoral dissertation research.
Photographer Robb Scharetg is
based in Washington, D.C., and San
Francisco. He has shot for Fast Company, The New York Times Magazine, Essence and Outside, among
other publications, as well as a host
of corporate clients. For this issue
of Arrive, he photographed some
of the nation’s top newswomen in
New York and Washington, D. C.
Elizabeth Johnson is the food editor of The
Journal News and LoHud.com in New York’s Lower
Hudson Valley, as well as television host of food
segments on RNN’s Hudson Valley NewsCenter
Now. She is also co-founder, with her husband, of
sourcherryfarm.com, which chronicles their lives
on a tiny but bountiful plot of land in Nyack, N. Y.
