Marching On
The nation’s capi-
tal—the headquar-
ters of our mili-
tary—didn’t have
a Memorial
Day Parade for
nearly 70 years.
But in 2005, the
American Veterans
Center brought
this tradition back
to Washington,
D.C., creating a
parade honoring
those who have
served in the U.S.
Armed Forces. In
its second year, the
parade boasted
more than 150,000
participants from
all over the United
States, featuring
marching bands,
active-duty and
retired military
units, floats and
more. This year’s
parade marshals
include actors Gary
Sinise and Joe
Mantegna. May 26.
