America’s Favorite Weatherman
and America’s Game team up to
celebrate America’s favorite way
to travel on National Train Day
There’s a new holiday on the books! Amtrak has
designated May 10 the first-ever National Train
Day, and America’s Favorite Weatherman, Al
Roker, is its enthusiastic spokesman.
“Earlier this winter I had to get from New
York to Boston,” Roker recalls. “The weather
was bad, but I had to get there. The only one
who could get me there was Amtrak—and I
loved the experience!”
The date, May 10, is deliberate: It’s the
anniversary of the completion of the first
transcontinental railroad at Promontory Point,
Utah, in 1869, when the East and West coasts
were connected for the first time by rail.
