Shooting for Stars
Bryan Moscatello moved to Washington, D.C., from Colorado in
2005, which is about the last time he was near a snowboard.
Even so, Moscatello has been pursuing a different style of
boarding, one in which the snow boot is a kitchen clog, the ski
jacket a white linen coat and the stocking cap a tall toque.
And he’s still flying down the mountain, only the mountain is
now a dizzying course of innovating at one restaurant while plan-
ning a new one.
His current wild run started last year when he took the post of
executive chef of the Star Restaurant Group, a modest outfit with
designs on taking the next leap. Star is best known for Zola, in
the International Spy Museum in Penn Quarter, a well-respected
day and night spot with
the added novelty of
espionage history.
But Star hopes to be
known also for its new Ital-
ian restaurant, kitty-corner
from the White House, at
15th and H streets NW. And
