“Richard Avedon: Portraits of Power”
Sept. 13, 2008–Jan. 25, 2009
In the midst of the 2008 presidential
election season, the Corcoran brings
together for the first time more than 200
political portraits by Richard Avedon,
America’s pre-eminent portrait and fashion photographer, in “Richard Avedon:
Portraits of Power.” Juxtaposing images
of government, media and labor officials
with photographs of activists, pop-culture icons, and ordinary citizens caught
up in national debates, this exhibition
explores a five-decade photographic
inquiry into politics and power by one of
the country’s best-known artists.
