Theatre of Great Britain’s production of Jean
Racine’s Phèdre. Believing her husband to be
dead, the passionate Queen Phèdre allows her
forbidden love for her stepson to blossom.
When the king returns home from the war—
alive—all three are forced into a desperate
situation. Ted Hughes’ adaptation of this tragedy, in a limited September run directed by
Nicholas Hytner, also stars Dominic Cooper
and Margaret Tyzack.
The company’s 2009–2010 season also
features Shakespeare’s gender-bending comedy As You Like It and two of his most thrilling
