Kulish started dancing when he was 6 years
old and says he knew from the moment he
stepped foot in a ballet class that it was what
he wanted to do for the rest of his life.
“;ere are a lot of similarities between Billy
and me,” he says, citing determination as a
big commonality. “Also, like Billy, I can’t stop
dancing—I have the urge to dance all the time.
;e only way I’m unlike Billy is that I’m very
supported by my family.”
Each Billy performs the role two or three
times a week.
“It’s a very hard show to do because we’re
pretty much on stage for three hours and there’s
only one scene that we’re not in,” Kulish says.
Just as Billy must face the idea of outgrowing his
nearest and dearest, these young actors must face
the fact that one day they’ll outgrow this incredible
part. At 15, Kulish, the oldest of the Billies, says, “I’ll
be playing the role as long as I can go, until my voice
starts to break and I’m way too tall.”
Until then, the Billies will enjoy their time on
Broadway and the perks of living their own dream.
