Seeing things

Mystic Aquarium
There are plenty of ways to experience the
ocean. You could go to the beach, set sail
on a schooner or observe extensive marine
habitats at an aquarium. But for an experience unlike anything you’ve ever seen, head
to the Mystic Aquarium in Mystic, Conn.,
for “National Geographic Crittercam: The
World Through Animal Eyes.” This groundbreaking traveling exhibit, which makes its
home in Mystic for the rest of 2011, gives
visitors the opportunity to experience the
ocean through the eyes of some of its most
fascinating inhabitants.
Developed by the National Geographic
Museum in Washington, D.C., the project
safely attached cameras to seals, sea lions,
sharks, turtles, whales, penguins and bears.
The footage gathered from those Crittercams gives us remarkable insight into what
life is like in the ocean. Experience how seals
and sea lions hunt, attract mates and care
for their young, in a series of listening and
vie wing stations. See life from a leatherback
turtle’s perspective as she navigates the sea,
searching for food and a mate. And explore
