Motorola Xoom: Lusted after by power users, this is the tablet you want if you’re looking for muscle and might over ease of use. Packing the much-ballyhooed Hon- eycomb release of Google’s Android operating system, the 32-gigabyte Xoom has a 10-hour battery, a 10.1-inch touch screen and, next o Apple, the most tablet- centric apps on the market. Highly
customizable and able to render Adobe Flash
(which means you can watch video on popular sites such
as Hulu), Xoom’s operating system gives users a lot more freedom
than other platforms. But that flexibility comes at a cost—critics have
skewered Android for being needlessly complicated and buggy at
times. Starting at $599; motorola.com

HP TouchPad: In a field where all the devices look and function
largely the same, HP is differentiating itself from the pack by debut-
ing some impressive physical features. First is its wireless charging
technology, which enables users to power the 9.7-inch tablet by
resting it on a special easel. Another is its Touchstone technology,
which enables Pre users to tap their mobile phone against their
TouchPad to transfer a website they were viewing on the smaller
screen to the larger one.
Expect more imple-
mentation of this
feature in the future,
as HP bought long-
time handheld maker
Palm (and its popular
webOS) to put great
ideas like this into
the market. The HP
TouchPad comes with
16 or 32 gigabytes of
storage. Starting at
