CITY GUIDE
A Flair for the
Dramatic
Brave the cold under
bright stage lights
this season
Trinity Repertory Company is Providence’s
most beloved theatrical institution. In addition to presenting a full season of classic
works, this year the Tony Award–winning
company presents Three by Three in Rep, a
rotating schedule of three new plays that run
Feb. 16 through May.
Providence
All three are world premières, and all are
compelling. Deborah Salem Smith’s Love Alone
deals with the fallout of a cosmetic procedure
gone wrong, told from the perspective both of
the patient’s family and of the doctors responsible. In The Mourners’ Bench by George Brant,
two families struggle to come to terms with
a shared tragedy. And in Sparrow Grass, written by Trinity’s artistic director, Curt Columbus, Racine’s Phèdre is reshaped through a
modern retelling. The shows run on a rotating schedule, and one is available to see on
any given night.
Upstairs in the Chace Theater, Trinity
revisits the Bard’s tale of greed and intrigue,
The Merchant of Venice. Starting Feb. 3, watch
as Shylock struggles to repay his debt in this
tragic, comic and surprisingly relevant restaging of a time-honored play. trinityrep.com.
