Storm King Highway
If you’re driving, take
Route 9W until it forks
into Route 218. This is
the Storm King Highway,
a spectacular winding
road carved right into
the mountainside, with
jaw-dropping views of
the Hudson River and
the Catskills.
Bear Mountain
State Park
The historic Perkins
Memorial Drive, con-
structed almost totally
by hand in the 1930s,
will take you up to the
top of Bear Mountain.
The park features a
zoo with such indig-
enous creatures as bald
eagles, foxes, black
bears, river otters, bob-
cats and fish. For lunch,
stop by the Bear Moun-
tain Lodge, a native-
stone-and-timber beauty
built in 1915 that offers
casual food.
