Although inkjet printers typically cost less than their
laser counterparts, the knock on them is that they
empty cartridges quicker and are costlier to maintain in the long run. Epson has pushed its inks to be
40 percent more efficient than laser toner, and with
double-sided printing, two deep-welled paper trays
and a touch-screen display, this multifunction printer
performs as well as it looks. It also connects with
mobile devices using Epson’s Connect software or to
PCs via Wi-Fi, Ethernet or USB, outputting quickly in
both color and black and white. Powerful enough for
the office, the WorkForce can take charge at home,
too. $199; epson.com
Printing Money
LITTLE PRINTER
Smartphones can do a limitless number
of things, but there are some feats they
can’t achieve—like being ripped, folded,
crumpled or written upon. Berg’s Little
Printer bridges this gap with a cute form
factor and surprisingly useful results.
Using thermal printing technology (think
store receipts), Little Printer connects
to the Berg Cloud, an online space that
users connect to with their apps, and
prints out a couple of mini-newspapers
per day. Including such things as to-do
lists, Sudoku puzzles, horoscopes and
social networking updates, the report
is a little digest that you can pin to the
fridge, stuff into your wallet or hand off to
a friend. And because it prints from the
cloud, not your mobile device, it will be
there waiting for you when you’re ready.
