BBQ AND BLUES ON THE JERSEY SHORE
NEW JERSEY The Garden State? For real down-home barbecue?
It’s true—and we wouldn’t joke about a serious subject like
pulled pork. For one delicious weekend (July 13-15), carnivores
can find nirvana in North Wildwood, a funky beach resort
that hosts the New Jersey State Barbecue Championship
( njbbq.com).
Teams from around the nation gather each year for
a fierce competition, waged with secret recipes, tangy
sauces and cutting-edge grilling techniques. You can
argue all day about whose barbecue is best while you
check out the cooking demonstrations, antique cars
and craft show.
Smoky, succulent ribs always taste better with a
soundtrack of sizzling hot blues, so the organizers
of this annual barbecue throw-down have combined
their event with the Anglesea Blues Festival. The
outdoor stage rocks all day, while blues acts perform
in neighboring bars and clubs. With beer, barbecue and
great music, it’s hog heaven.
