far-off places is to talk to people who have been
there. But you’re planning a trip to Egypt and the
farthest any of your friends go is the Hamptons.
What should you do? Go online, of course.
Start with your already familiar social networking site, if you are a member of one. For instance,
developers have built several travel applications for
Facebook, including Where I’ve Been and Travel
Buddies.
Next, check out sites specifically designed
for travelers. WAYN ( wayn.com), which stands for
Where Are You Now?, was founded in 2002 to
connect travelers who want to exchange tips and
meet up with others. On adventureus.com you can
read travel blogs, view travel photos (and soon
videos) and read through a compilation of helpful
travel articles from all over the Internet. The idea
behind triptie.com is that you browse users’ travel
plans and mix and match to create your own itinerary. There’s even a site for, um, world-class daters,
called travelhotties.com.
