and demonstration event for American
Kennel Club (AKC) registered dogs. The
four days of canine contests include lots
of grooming and primping from the seven
groups of purebred dogs: hound, terrier, herding, sporting, nonsporting, toy and working,
which vie for “Best in Group” and “Best of
Breed” each day to qualify for the highly coveted dog trainer raison d’être, “Best in Show.”
Demonstrations include “Meet the Breeds”
(newly recognized breeds this year include
the Tibetan mastiff, plott, Glen of Imaal terrier), interactive petting areas, and police and
working dog demonstrations. Groups can
make arrangements for “backstage tours,”
and to pamper the pooch in your life the
show offers hand-knitted sweaters, specialty
T-shirts and hats, professional grooming
supplies and pet exercise equipment. Woof.
