Vice President Joe biden is photographed for the cover of Amtrak's Arrive magazine in his West Wing office nov. 13, 2009.
Vice President Joe Biden wrote this issue’s cover story about trains—
and America’s continuing need for them—to commemorate Arrive magazine’s
10th anniversary, which we’re celebrating in 2010. Biden is widely known by
his nickname, “Amtrak Joe,” thanks to the thousands of rides he’s taken over
the years between his home in Wilmington, Del., and work in Washington,
D.C. In addition to writing the cover story, “The Right Track” (pg. 36), Biden
graciously invited the Arrive team into his office in the West Wing for a photo
shoot. While we were working he quipped that, considering how many times
he’s ridden the Acela Express, it’s about time we put him on the cover. Needless to say, the staffs at Amtrak and Arrive are honored to feature him in this
special edition of the magazine.
In Vermont, it’s more than a train—it’s a high tech sleigh ride. Find your winter getaway package at VermontVacation.com
Michele Asselin has photographed for such publications as The New Yorker, Time, The New York
Times Magazine and Fortune, among others. Her
subject matter includes portraits of Hillary Clinton,
Condoleezza Rice, Henry Paulson and Leon Panetta.
For this issue of Arrive, Asselin photographed Vice
President Joe Biden for the cover (see above) and
cover story, “The Right Track.” (pg. 36).
Sheryl Nance-Nash has written for publications such
as The New York Times, Essence and Newsday,
among others. “I didn’t go into this story, ‘You Can
Go Your Own Way,’ (pg. 32) thinking that starting a
business in a recession would have advantages,”
she says. “But there are. I was surprised to discover
that more than half of the companies on the 2009
Fortune 500 list were started in a recession.”
