Patrons can take that guarantee to the bank!
In fact, Loews Philadelphia Hotel, which opened
Its timelessness is one of the building’s
most remarkable qualities. It has not aged or become
old-fashioned, even after all these years. The fabric of the
building is stainless steel, granite, glazed and unglazed
black brick, limestone, myriad varieties of marble, rare
woods and leather.
The PSFS building, designed
by William Lescaze and George
Howe, was commissioned in
1929 and opened in stages
between 1932 and 1933. Over
three quarters of a century later, it
is still considered a masterpiece of
American architecture.
It was built and equipped at an estimated cost of
$8 million, a staggering sum at the time, and nearly
impossible to ascribe a value to today. Additionally,
it was the first skyscraper in the city to have any type
of “advertising.” The 27-foot-high, rooftop PSFS
sign in red neon letters still serves as a beacon in the
Philadelphia skyline. In PSFS’ heyday the sign was
always lit, even during the Great Depression. Now,
on a clear night, it can be seen from more than
20 miles away.
Loews is proud to occupy a building in one of
America’s most historic cities, and with such special
meaning to all Philadelphians. As an homage to this
significant site, The “Philly Overnight” package includes:
• Overnight accommodations
• Complimentary valet parking
• A special amenity of a “Philly’s More Fun” teddy
bear and the O;cial Philly Brag Book
The “Philly Overnight” package starts at $165 per
night and is available through
Dec. 30, 2010. The package is
subject to availability and change.
