A visit to the Rhode Island School of
Design Museum of Art is akin to a globe-spanning sojourn. The collection encom-passes pieces as varied as an Egyptian
mummy, 18th-century American furniture, Turkish silks, Latin American art
and works by French impressionists.
The chance to lay eyes on a carved
wooden Buddha from a temple near
Kyoto is worth the trip alone. Approxi-
mately 9 feet high and housed in its own
gallery, it’s the largest seated Japanese
figural sculpture in the United States.
