The end of summer
doesn’t mean the
party’s over. A bounty
of music, theater and
artful events are in the
queue, waiting for you
along the Northeast
Corridor through Octo-
ber. So you didn’t make
it to Broadway to catch
The Color Purple?
Check it out when it
hits the DuPont The-
atre in Wilmington. Kick
the tires before you
buy and experience
the evolution of the
“compact car” at a pair of auto shows. Take your pick of two Oktoberfests;
pay homage to Betsy Ross; experience Cirque Dreams Illumination; and let
the music play at a rockin’ festival in New Haven and a jazz experience in
Boston. The kids will get a kick out of the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular at the
Roger Williams Park Zoo in Rhode Island. And see what Andy Warhol cre-
ated during the last decade of his life. Check for special rail fare discounts

Human artist: During
the 1950s, Leonard Baskin
placed the human figure
at the center of his work
and set himself against the
abstraction and formalism
that dominated art production and criticism at the
time. Baskin explored the
work of other artists, birds,
tragic literary figures and
human suffering, in drawings, prints, sculptures and
books. “Leonard Baskin:
Art from the Gift of Alfred
Appel, Jr.” celebrates 70
works donated to the Delaware Art Museum by Dr.
and Mrs. Alfred Appel, Jr.
