Art lovers got an early glimpse
of some of the artist self-portraits featured in the exhibit
“Narcissus in the Studio: Artist
Portraits and Self-Portraits,”
which ran from Oct. 23, 2010,
through Jan. 2, 2011.
Artist Self-Portraits
Last fall, nearly 1,000 guests attended the Pennsylvania Academy
of Fine Arts’ (PAFA) opening reception for “Narcissus in the Studio:
Artist Portraits and Self-Portraits,” an
exhibition exploring the complex,
witty and unexpected nature of
artistic identity.
Artists included in the show
were Julius Bloch, Joan Brown,
Gregory Gillespie, Archibald Motley Jr., William Sidney Mount, Vik
Muniz, Elizabeth Osborne, George
Tooker and Benjamin West.
The exhibition was the first to
showcase PAFA’s impressive holdings
of artwork exploring artistic identity
from the public to the personal.
