So Get Wright
with Nature
Ninety minutes outside of Pittsburgh, in the Laurel
Highlands, is a region of incredible natural beauty
as well as two Frank Lloyd Wright houses open to
tours—Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob.
Wright designed Fallingwater for Edgar and
Liliane Kaufmann in 1936. He set the house in a
mountainside, lipping it over the Bear Run tributary, and wrapped it in walls of glass to bring
nature indoors. The sound of cascading water can
be heard throughout the house.
