Alittle good news for the conomy is certainly welcome these days, and help has ar- rived, after a fashion, in the
form of a revival of the beloved musical
How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, which opens on Broadway
March 27 at the Al Hirschfeld ;eatre.
Daniel Radcli;e, best known for playing the title role in the wildly successful
Harry Potter films, is top-billed opposite
five-time Emmy winner John Larroquette
(Night Court), who makes his Broadway
debut in the Tony Award-winning comedy. Rob Ashford (;oroughly Modern
Millie), a multi-award-winner himself,
serves as director and choreographer.
Acclaimed songwriter Frank Loesser,
whose works include Guys and Dolls,
won two Tonys for his music and lyrics,
while the book, by Abe Burrows, Jack
Weinstock and Willie Gilbert, took home
the 1962 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
;e show’s origin is the popular 1952
book of the same name (subtitled ;e
Dastard’s Guide to Fame and Fortune)
by Shepherd Mead, which presented a
satirical instruction manual for would-be
corporate ladder climbers. ;e musical
began as a straight drama by Gilbert and
Weinstock, but after producers Cy Feuer
and Ernest Martin, who had struck gold
with Guys and Dolls, brought veteran
script doctor Burrows and Loesser into
the fold, the project became a song-and-dance spectacular, with choreography
by Bob Fosse and Hugh Lambert, and
memorable numbers like I Believe in
You, Brotherhood of Men and ;e Company Way. Robert Morse won a Tony for
his performance as J. Pierrepont Finch,
