Relearning
the Classics
This spring, learn a thing or two
about Providence’s thriving art
community
You might have heard that Providence is
pretty well known for its arts scene. While
you’re in town, you can do some exploring on
your own to experience what the city has to
offer, or you can go straight to the source to
learn a little something about art.
Drop in on a gallery conversation or art
workshop at the Rhode Island School of
Design Museum. They happen on a rotating
schedule several times a month and don’t
require any specific skill level. Every third
Thursday, the city hosts Gallery Night, an
evening to travel on the free Art Bus to the
city’s galleries, which stay open late and offer

On the fourth Wednesday of the month,
brush up on your art skills in a whole new way
at Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School at the Hi-Hat,
where the models are burlesque dancers, the
classroom is a swanky lounge and the skill
isn’t so necessary.

Or learn to use your hands to make something tangible at Craftland, which is partly a
fabulous store to buy local artists’ and crafters’
handiwork, partly an art gallery and partly a
school of craft. Learn to draw, knit, letterpress
or create all manner of things that will surprise
and impress all the people who had no idea you
were so talented.
