Celebrate the outdoor
beauty of Frederick
If you are an artist, pack your
easel and come visit Frederick,
Md., June 22–26 as the city hosts
a plein-air event to celebrate its
beauty. The city has long been
known for its art. In fact,
Ameri-canStyle Magazine listed Frederick
on its 25 Small City Arts Destinations list.
The formal event, Easels in
Frederick, is a juried competition
to promote the arts environment
of Frederick and to create interest in the art of plein-air painting.
Such painting “in the open air”
(outdoors) was popularized by
the impressionists during the 19th
century. The artists paint views or
visuals of the city without the aid
of photographs.
On Wednesday, June 22, selected professional artists will gather in Frederick’s
downtown to interpret and paint historic
cityscapes and landmarks. Artists will submit
t wo completed art works Saturday afternoon
and the awards ceremony will take place
Sunday, along with an exhibit and sale. During the competition, all artists will be hosted
by a family in Frederick. The grand prize is
$5,000. easelsinfrederick.org.
