Paddling on a swan at Roger Williams Park
WELLNESS
A Healthy Day
Providencein
Rhode Island’s capital city is just the right
size to explore by foot, bicycle or gondola
Local 121
Stroll the cobblestone streets and
Venetian-style bridges along the river-
front, then relax and unwind as a gon-
dolier rolls you down the Providence
River for the best view of the city’s 16th-
century architecture.
URBAN OASIS
Get your oxygen fix while enjoy-
ing the beauty of Roger Williams Park,
named for the city’s founder. The 430-
acre sanctuary is home to waterways,
towering trees, woodland creatures
and the Botanical Center, among other
o;erings. Find your way to the historic
boathouse and paddle away in your own
Swan-shaped ride.

PLAY ON CLAY
Give your heart and muscles a work-
out while giving your knees a rest at the
Todd Morsilli Clay Court Tennis Center.
“Clay is very forgiving on the back and
joints,” says Marisa Salvadore, director of
programs. Take a swing at Cardio Tennis,
with eight other players dancing across
the courts to upbeat tunes. The historic
center o;ers a class for every skill level
and age. Cardio Tennis is $10 per hour,
per person.

SEASONAL NOURISHMENT
Local 121 changes its menu to the
rhythm of the seasons. “Summer is a
bounty of squash, grains—even the fish
will change,” co-owner Nancy Miller says.
The eatery makes its home in the his-
toric Dreyfus Hotel, and ingredients are
sourced from more than 50 local farms.
O;erings might include a roasted yel-
low beet radicchio salad with Great Hill
Blue cheese and toasted hazelnuts, or a
roasted butternut squash melt with Shel-
burne Farms cheddar and house-made
sauerkraut.
