Cirque du Soleil at Radio City Music Hall Cirque du Soleil, the French-Canadian circus extraordinaire, arrived in New York City this summer with its newest dazzler, the acrobatic rock opera Zarkana. The lead character is Zark, played by Garou (“were- wolf” in French), a Quebecois pop star. Zark’s a musician who goes in search of his lost powers—and ladylove, a woman called Lia— and during his quest encounters jugglers, trapeze artists, contortionists and the brave, daredevil riders of the “Wheel of Death.” Touted as “fantastically bizarre,” Zarkana lives up to Cirque’s incredible reputation for magical, breathtaking and “how do they do that?” showmanship.
