Haunted
Providence
The city has more spirit than
ever this fall
As a city that’s been around for 375 years, Providence has its share of sordid history. Channel
this sordid past on a Providence Ghost Tour.
Although the tours are offered year-round,
both the frequency and the spookiness of the
experience ramp up in the fall; there’s no better
time to imagine Edgar Allan Poe strolling down
Benefit Street than on an eerie fall evening.

For a real scare, check out Flickers: Rhode
Island International Horror Film Festival.
This annual fright-fest, which showcases
new, independent feature horror films along
with short films and documentaries, takes
place this year Oct. 20–23 at locations all over
Providence. Oct. 25, the action comes off the
screen and into real life at the Zombiethon
Battle, a costumed combat demonstration.

The most family friendly (and most memorable) of Providence’s Halloween festivities
is the Jack-o-Lantern Spectacular at Roger
Williams Park Zoo. This can’t-miss, nightly
event occurs Oct. 6–31 along the Wetlands
Trail in the zoo and features thousands of
beautifully carved pumpkins, some weighing
hundreds of pounds. It’s an experience like no
other—and not one you should pass up while
you’re visiting Providence. rwpzoo.org.

More than 100 artists and crafters will
show their wares at
the festival, in addition to food and live
entertainment. this is
the third year for the
Providence art Festival, and the event has
become so popular
that planners added
a second date (the

in June). Supporting
