room reunion reading Tour,
featuring prominent african-american poets.
The unterberg Poetry center
at new york’s 92nd street y is
a place where, in the words of
director Bernard schwartz, “it’s
national Poetry Month all year
round.” Poets heather Mchugh
and lucia Perillo read there april
26, and special uploads will be
added to the center’s virtual

for those who want to try their
hand at poetry themselves, the
new york Public library hosts
poetry classes and open mikes
throughout the five boroughs
(schedule at nypl.org).
Finally, you’ll want to check
with independent bookstores
throughout the region. Philadelphia’s robin’s Books, cambridge’s harvard Book store, new
york’s strand and Washington’s
Politics and Prose all have strong
traditions of supporting poetry
and will be marking the month
with readings and other events.
