LET THERE
BE LIGHT
“Being outside and having natural light gives
people a real sense of delight,” says Storm
King president and CEO John P. Stern. “It
awakens the senses.”
Visitors to Storm King in 2012 will experi-
ence that feeling in the new exhibit “Light and
Landscape.” Pieces from the collection, and
newly commissioned works, will be situated
inside the Museum Center and around the
grounds in ways that explore how light affects
the art, the land and the viewer.
“The light here is dynamic. It will change
moment to moment, day to day, season to
season,” Stern says. “The clouds, the weather,
seasonal changes in the native plants and
grasses—I get a new view every time I walk
around the grounds.”
Indeed, although fall is perhaps the most
popular time to visit, spring offers truly unique
vistas. “Before the foliage is full, you get amaz-
ing views of the distant mountains that you just
can’t see in midsummer,” Stern says.
