ATTENTION FAILING KIDNEY:
BALTIMORE IS YOUR LAST STOP
The University of Maryland Medical Center is a recognized leader
in transplantation – for both its experience and innovation. As the
second busiest kidney transplant center in the nation, we have
shorter wait times than the national average and we are among
a handful of centers to o;er a single operation to remove the
kidneys and perform a transplant in patients with polycystic
kidney disease and renal failure.
Peter Micca, a patient with polycystic kidney disease, traveled
more than 6 hours from Rochester, New York to receive a
life-saving kidney transplant in Baltimore. After researching other
transplant centers closer to his home, he was relieved to learn
that surgeons at the University of Maryland Medical Center could
remove both polycystic kidneys and perform a living donor kidney
transplant at the same time – reducing his recovery time and
getting his life back on track.
