ROCKPORT CHAMBER MUSIC FESTIVAL

Now in its 29th year, this Massachusetts music
festival has relocated to its new home at the Shalin
Liu Performance Center. The five-week festival opens
June 10 with an evening of Wagner, Copland and a
world premiere commissioned piece by composer
Scott Wheeler, and will include performances by Boston Musica Viva (June 18), the Biava String Quartet
(June 24-25), a cappella men’s choir Cantus (July 8)

WOMEN IN JAZZ FESTIVAL May 20—22 The 15th annual Women In Jazz Festival at Kennedy Center celebrates the 100th anniver- sary of the birth of Mary Lou Williams, who mentored and/or wrote songs for jazz legends like Charlie Parker, Benny Goodman and Duke Ellington. The three-day festival highlights Williams’ compositions, with performances by Howard University jazz vocal ensemble Afro Blue; an all-star quintet featuring Dee Dee Bridgewater and Geri Allen; vocalist Catherine Russell; and the Big Band sound of Sherrie Maricle & DIVA.
