When it comes to financial advice, there is no one-size-fits-all expert. Loan o;cers at local credit unions o;er mortgage services, financial planners
make recommendations for investments and retirement accounts, credit counselors establish debt repayment programs, and financial psychologists delve into
beliefs about money.
“Establishing a relationship with a new financial
[expert] takes time and e;ort,” says Mark Wol;, senior
vice president of communications for the Washington,
D.C.-based Credit Union National Association. “A lot of
people are steered in di;erent directions, often by word
of mouth, and aren’t sure who to talk to.”
