Hit the runway at
StyleWeek
Fashion in Providence is a style
unto itself. The city’s unique mix
of indie sensibilities and vintage
inspirations (with the influence
of the elite Rhode Island School of
Design thrown in) creates a vibe
where nothing is too much and
everything looks fabulous. From
Aug. 26–31, Style Week Northeast
brings the look of Providence
and beyond to the runway. The
weeklong showcase of emerging
and established fashion designers brings in talent from Providence and across the country.
Style Week has also shown designs
from several Project Runway
contestants, like Joseph Aaron Segal
from this most recent season,
Peach Carr, David Chum and
Jonathan Joseph Peters.
Each night of Style Week,
which happens downtown at
the Providence Biltmore, begins
with the accessory showcase, a
shopping area filled with local
purveyors of handmade jewelry,
custom handbags and cosmetics. You can shop, and take in the
fashion installations, even without a ticket to the night’s runway
shows. But you probably don’t
want to miss those, either.

Show Your Stripes, America
Rhode Island is proud of its history, especially when it comes
to Independence Day. Bristol’s July Fourth celebration is the
oldest, longest-running one in the country—dating all the way
back to 1785. The town doesn’t just have a parade, it celebrates
all month long: with a summer concert series in Independence
Park, a gala celebration, a Miss 4th of July pageant, fireworks over
Bristol Harbor, a carnival and more. They all lead up to the parade
itself, which draws thousands upon thousands of onlookers and
participants every year. After ward, a classic car show on Aug. 4
keeps the celebration going down Bristol’s red, white and blue
striped streets. july4thbristolri.com
